When a young man is going through puberty what is the proper way to address this issue as his father? Telling him it's OK to do it and then what? How far should a father go when discussing this with his son? What about pornography?

As far as a Doctor, I would say no. But a parent, ie father, then yes, within reason.

First its best to discuss sex and explain it to guyren before they hit puberty. I start my boys with a age appropiate talk aroudn age 5-6 and it helps to open the lines of communication about it. Atleast once a year I sit down with each of them, and ask then questions to see what they know and have heard and then give them correct info to combat the misleading stuff they have heard from frineds at school or ??...

Yes, I as my boys get closer to the age or when they ask about masterbation or "playing with it" or "jacking off" I explain what it is, that its NORMAL and all guys do it and its nothing to be ashamed or embarassed about. (this talk is normally age 9-11 range depending on which boy it is).

Its best to address it with them as they grow as you never know when they will get the urge to try it or to start experimenting with friends. And take it from a person that has done it, its not fun to talk into your sons room and catch him and hsi best friend in the middle of doing it. It will get yoru attention. I have walked in on them playing with it and even 2 one of my boys an his firned playing with it and it remineds you how fast they grow up, but they often do more and or go farther and need to be educated about it and also to know that they can talk with a parent about it and the feelings they have and that its normal to experiment with a friend(s) and it does not make them gay, and that no matter what, that you love them unconditionally.

It hasn't been easy for me but I think that applies to all single parents. My girls are daddy's girls. So far my guyren haven't been more prone to sports. Certainly healthy and a good worker. After age 12 he would have started helping Joseph and learning to be a carpenter.
